This
Record of the Monumental Inscriptions at the Fordham Road Cemetery,
Soham, Cambridgeshire, was made by Tim & Julie Webb of Soham between 2004
and 2010 as time permitted. It was prepared originally in text form on
paper, but this being to costly to produce, it was decided to copy the
records on to a DVD. This electronic version comprises the full text of the
transcript, with the addition of photographs of the graves taken during the
transcription, as well as purchase and burial details taken from the
original purchase and burial registers held at the Soham Town Council
offices at the Walter Gidney Pavilion, Fountain Lane, Soham. Not all of the
cemetery was transcribed, we decided to stop transcribing at section P, as
the remainder of the cemetery is for much later burials, and it was thought
this would be inappropriate, perhaps in the years to come someone will
continue were we have left off.
Soham Ancestor Cd's
Soham
Ancestors
Volume 1.
Introduction.
This Cd has been compiled to assist you in your search for your
Ancestors in the Parish of Soham Cambridgeshire, which includes the
Hamlet of Barway. Every effort has been made to give the correct
information as seen in the original sources, however as with all
transcriptions and indexes there is a possibility of there being
errors, it is therefore recommended that the original sources are
consulted, which can be found in the Cambridge Record Office as regards
to the Marriage Database and the 1891 Census.
The
Chapel Book was kept in the Anglican Chapel in the Fordham
Road
Cemetery in Soham, we came across it in the local Council Offices and
is in poor condition. The book contains information on the Burials in
the Cemetery when it first opened in 1856 and ends in 1881, with the
exception of 1877 which is missing, the book would have been filled in
by the Officiating Minister at the time of the Burial, and gives the
Name, Age, Abode, Burial Date, Grave No, & Officiating Minister
of the Deceased. Quite a little gem of information.
1891
Census For Soham Cambridgeshire including the Hamlet of
Barway.
The Census is fully searchable using the Abode Viewers Search Facility,
Marriages
for St Andrews Church Soham 1559 – 1875, this database is
fully searchable, and all spellings of names are entered as seen in the
original Register for example, Fyson, Fison, take this into account
when searching for your name.
Quakers
of Cambridgeshire and The Isle of Ely, This is a very
interesting book that we have extracted the Cambridgeshire part from,
the full title of the book is, A Collection of the Sufferings of the
People called Quakers, and was published in 1753, but gives accounts as
far back as 1653, has many names from this area and details of what
became of them including their punishments because of their Faith, is
an absolutely fascinating read.
Cures
for Beasts, This is a little handwritten book of 1817 in
our
possession, it once belonged to a Local Live Stock Farmer, it is unique
and is a book of recipes of old fashioned Cures for all manner of
disorders in Cattle, Sheep and Horses, you can read how they cured
these things with local ingredients, some sound pretty hair raising .
To view this Cd you require Adobe Reader 6 or above.
